USMC looking at replacing SAW with....

A IAR?!!!

http://www.militaryfactory.com/smallarm ... rms_id=880

So basically this is just a full auto M4 platform? Maybe a match grade barrel with a free floating RIS?

Ok. So how does a fire team fix the enemy with a 30 Rd mag vs a 100 Rd nut sack? What about packing extra barrels so you can quick change them? Is the 0331 going to have to pee on his IAR barrel to stay in the fight!?

Fat arm chair airsofters like me wanna know the official scuttle butt on this seemingly step backwards to the BAR WW2 mindset.......which resulted in the reverse engineering of the MG 42 and the adoption of the M 60 effectionally called the PIG.

I've seen this talk as well. Seems counter productive to me.

Yes, having a mag that works with the standard receiver seems nice - but didn't Stoner do that already? ;) Say, back in '63? And his '63 had quick change barrels.

And you could convert the receiver to run link belt ammo in a LMG config.

yup. that just seems like the gun to replace the SAW. hell, if they're so in love with the M4 platform, why not SHRIKE it? it's already made.

Very true.

The reasoning seems to be weight, grunts are packing too much. So let's pack less ammo.....so we can pack more batteries for comms and laptops and other electronic leash hardware!

That's what I am hearing.

Carlos Hathcock to a young Scout/Sniper at a USMC shot show booth..."What's all this shit!?"

love it. I went to a recent airsoft game and borrowed a PC from Matt. I felt like an idiot wearing that stuff - mainly because it was so foreign to me. Anyway, I ditched it halfway through the day and just tucked magazines into pockets.

In that link they are talking about how overburdened our combat troops and Marines have become. And how they cannot get too far away from the humvee column or the FOB because they carry too much shit and need to be constantly re supplied.

With that said I don't think this IAR concept is the right move for wait savings.

As far as airsoft I use a ISAAK system which is just a modern molle version of a web belt and suspenders. If your not using SAPI plates? Why wear a carrier?

Mules are the answer.

One large mule can carry 400-500 lbs of gear plus pack saddle. They eat stuff that would kill a horse. They are stronger and live longer than a horse. They can go almost anywhere a human can. And they are relatively inexpensive compared to a ATV.

They could operate in almost every theater on earth.

Just need to develop a modular plug and play pack saddle, so that anyone could pack gear on the mule with knowing how to tie basket or diamond hitches.
